"A lifeguard was swimming at Scarborough Beach State Park when a white shark “grabbed” his rescue torpedo and pulled it underwater, along with the lifeguard.
“The lifeguard was pulled approximately 5–6 feet below the surface before being able to free himself from the strap attached to the rescue device and swim safely back to shore,” the press release said. Daryen Granata, the Marine Resource Officer for the Scarborough Police, told Nexstar that the lifeguard was uninjured.
A witness later told investigators that the rescue device eventually came shooting “6–8 feet” out of the water, presumably after the shark let it go..."
